Executive Summary with Rationale and Impact:

Detailed description of the item and why we are doing it. This can be a separate attachment.

This proposed addition to the DRMC would recognize the Saturday closest to June 19th (Juneteenth) as a “commemorative” holiday for the City of Denver and call for appropriate public observance. Juneteenth recognizes the end of slavery in the United States and has been celebrated in Denver since 1953, where the first events were held in Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood. This recognizes Denver’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and educates on and honors African American freedom, heritage and achievement. It would join two other commemorative holidays in Denver’s code.
