City Council Request:

Approval of a Lease Agreement between the City and County of Denver and Una Mano Una Esperanza, for a 3-year term for provision of community services at 1000 S. Lowell Boulevard.  

 

RFP Process:

As a precursor to the RFP process, Council District 3 conducted a community survey asking a broad range of respondents in the Westwood neighborhood to identify their greatest needs for the community that could potentially be served by a non-profit leasing 1000 S. Lowell Boulevard. 

 

An RFP advertised the availability of space via multiple media channels, with the goal of selecting a non-profit organization to provide services to the Westwood community that meet the needs identified in the community survey and in the Westwood Neighborhood Plan.  After a thorough vetting process, Una Mano Una Esperanza was selected as the winner.

 

Una Mano Una Esperanza will lead a newly formed partnership called Westwood Together, working with other nonprofits, initially Lifespan Local and Southwest Denver Coalition.  These are community-led entities whose services align with the community preferences identified in the survey as well as the Westwood Neighborhood Plan.  

 

Westwood Together’s vision, with collective community input and power, will create a Community Center that is welcoming, vibrant, reflects the community and meets their needs and desires.  The mission is to work collaboratively in the Westwood community to create a community center that supports community needs, celebrates cultural diversity and promotes community ownership.

 

Westwood Together’s goals for the Community Center are:

                     Create a space for everyone from youth to elders

                     Offer a wide range of resources all in one place.

                     Develop a welcoming and inclusive environment for people of all different backgrounds

                     Provide an opportunity for SW Denver community agencies to work collaboratively to serve the community.

                     Create/encourage community connection

                     Listen to the community and adapt the center for community need

                     Create space for community leaders to work and grow.
