Appropriates $7,350,918.40 of the Federal Head Start grant to operate the Denver Great Kids Head Start program through the Office of Children’s Affairs serving 1,153 children (201842237). The Committee approved filing this item at its meeting on 5-16-18.

The United States Department of Health and Human Services - Administration for Children and Families has awarded Grant Number 08CH1119 in the amount of $9,188,648.00 to the City and County of Denver - Office of Children’s Affairs to operate the Federal Head Start program and provide services to 1,153 children in its established service area. This appropriation will provide 80% percent of funding based upon a letter of intent to allow the Office of Children’s Affairs to award funds to all sub-recipients. The Budget and Management Office has approved this appropriation request. The contract term is for July 1, 2018 thru June 30, 2019. Upon receipt of the award letter, the Office of Children’s Affairs will request appropriation of the final 20 percent. It is anticipated that the official award notification will be received prior to the program year starting. The appropriation requested is to assure that the contracts will be in place on the first day of the program year.
