Approves a grant agreement with Re-Vision International for $2,561,547 and through 12-31-2025, through the Healthy Food for Denver’s Kids Initiative, to provide education around health equity, food justice and the local food system, delivery of food boxes, and youth apprenticeships supporting, focused on Council Districts 2, 3, 7 and 10 (ENVHL-202368711). Type and Scope of services to be performed:
Re:Vision is expanding its nutrition and food sovereignty education programming for children and youth as it continues working toward creating an equitable food system for BIPOC youth and families in Southwest Denver through an existing partnership with Emerald Gardens and via the addition of a new partnership with Denver School of Innovation and Sustainable Design. Through this request, Re:Vision will sustain our family garden curriculum that serves 250 families, 2 summer cohorts of our Semillas de Esperanza youth nutrition and food sovereignty curriculum to expand from 6 to 8 weeks, our 1 summer and 1 fall cohort of our Xulinaria nutrition and culinary food skills curriculum to expand from 6 to 8 weeks, maintain our 24 week Semillas de Agua youth hydroponic apprenticeship, and adapt and launch our Xulinaria and Semillas de Agua curriculums in partnership with DSISD to launch the program with DSISD youth in the 2023/24 school year and deliver in subsequent years. Re:Vision will also be expanding our work with Denver Health’s Westside and Pena clinics in the delivery of CSA boxes containing free fresh produce grown at Re:Vision’s urban farm to WIC enrolled families with newborns identified as food insecure to also include families participating in their Health Lifestyles program that includes youth from 0-17 years. We will expand from enrolling 40 to 60 families. Through the proposed expansions of our work, Re:Vision, Emerald Gardens, Denver Health and DSISD intend to increase our collective ability to foster the development of healthy children and youth with a sense of connection to the earth and their culture while increasing food security through our family garden and urban farm free fresh food production.
