Vendor/Contractor Name (including any “DBA”): U.S. Motels Denver North, Inc.

Type and Scope of services to be performed:

HOST has seen an increased number of families seeking shelter through hotel and motel rooms during the COVID-19 crisis. Families seeking shelter can access a limited number of nights in one of two motels:

30 rooms at the Volunteers of America Family Motel

Up to 40 rooms at the U.S. Motels Denver North Super 8 Location

HOST has seen an increase from approximately five families per night at U.S. Motels Denver North to approximately 30 families per night through summer 2020. Length of stay is typically restricted to 14 nights per household per calendar year, with a goal of rapidly rehousing families back into stable housing, or into a shelter or transitional housing program if needed. If capacity has been reached at both motel sites, procedures are implemented to assist families in getting into shelters or other housing services. Families can access hotel and motel services at The Gathering Place, the Volunteers of America Mission, or at Samaritan House.

An additional $100,000 was previously added to this contract and covered expenses through June 2020; this amendment aims to cover costs through December 2020. This emergency assistance is funded through the Department of Housing Stability but operated in collaboration with the Denver Human Services CORE Team and in partnership with Volunteers of America as the motel voucher writer. The source for these funds is the special allocation of $1,000,000 for hotel vouchers appropriated by the City Council as part of the 2020 budget.
