Type and Scope of services to be performed:

Cliff Garten will design an approximately 130' x 20' suspended aluminum and blown glass sculpture for the Colorado Convention Center's D Lobby facing Speer Blvd. The sculpture is a conceptual rendering of the mountains and rivers of Colorado. The goal of the artwork is to engage visitors from multiple locations and levels, and it is also visible to viewers from the center's exterior.

 

Cliff Garten and Associates Inc. are responsible for designing, engineering, fabrication, transportation, installing artwork, and all other miscellaneous components necessary to complete the commission, including lighting compounded for the art. Stamped engineering drawings by a licensed Colorado engineer are a requirement before fabrication.

 

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 

Background:

 

In 2020 the A&V Public Art Program began commissioning a public artwork with funds generated by the renovation and construction project from the Colorado Convention Center. A 14-member art selection panel that included community members, an artist and art professional, and Councilmember Candi CdeBaca selected Cliff Garten and Associates Inc., an international creative arts and design studio based in Venice, CA, for the commission. 

 

Current Request:

Denver Arts & Venues is seeking City Council approval of an agreement with Cliff Garten and Associates Inc. to move forward with a budget of $1,200,000.00 for this public artwork.
