A resolution approving a proposed Third Amendatory Agreement between the City and County of Denver and Mental Health Center of Denver d/b/a WellPower, for operation of the Crisis Intervention Response Unit, which pairs mental health clinicians with police officers to respond to calls involving individuals with suspected mental health needs and is funded through the Caring for Denver Foundation.
Amends a contract with Mental Health Center of Denver, operating as WellPower, to add $2,082,705 for a new total of $6,005,984 and 13 additional months for a new end term of 11-30-2024 for operation of the Crisis Intervention Response Unit, which pairs mental health clinicians with police officers to respond to calls involving individuals with suspected mental health needs and is funded through the Caring for Denver Foundation, citywide. Type and Scope of services to be performed:
Mental Health Care of Denver d/b/a WellPower will continue to provide 24/7 co-responder services in areas of highest need. A team of clinicians, case managers, a case manager supervisor, program evaluator and a program manager will continue to
work collaboratively and in partnership with Denver’s Police, Fire, Sheriff and Parks Departments, community organizations and community stakeholders.
The Co-Responder Program provides 24/7, Citywide response for situations necessitating a law enforcement response (presence of weapons, situational security, high acuity and immediate response needed). Additional Co-Responders support co-response for compliance and enforcement by Park Rangers, problem-solving and navigation to decrease overreliance on Emergency Medical Service (EMS) resources through 9-1-1, clinical support for Court-ordered medication and eviction situations, and others. This contract funds 17 clinicians, 4 case managers, and 7 Outreach Case Coordinators.
