A resolution approving a proposed First Amendatory Agreement between the City and County of Denver and Summer Scholars for after school recreation programs and swim lessons, citywide.
Amends a contract with Summer Scholars by adding $117,416 for a new total of $744,916 for after school recreation programs and swim lessons, citywide. No change to contract duration (201522227). The last regularly scheduled Council meeting within the 30-day review period is on 10-26-20. The Committee approved filing this item at its meeting on 9-15-20.

Type and Scope of services to be performed:
Summer Scholars provides after school recreation programs. Participants in the Summer Scholars programs are primarily low-income youth who are in need of extra help with reading. Participants typically read below established grade levels, and academic failure in elementary school is an established risk factor for later issues related to juvenile delinquency, teen pregnancy, and substance abuse. A lack of access to recreation services is another risk factor for low-income youth, and Summer Scholars’ literacy and recreation
programs seek to offset the risk factors of academic failure and lack of access to recreation services. Summer Scholars also provides camp programs and swim lessons to participants.
