The public process to name Northside Park began in early 2016 when Globeville residents desired to have the Northside Park recognize the contribution of early immigrant families and the representation of former Councilman Sal Carpio. The petition was submitted and championed by Councilwoman Deborah "Debbie" Ortega's Office. The petition included:
* 666 complete signatures (150 more than required)
* Twenty (20) letters or emails of support, including letters from Wellington Webb, former Denver Mayor; Rudy Gonzales, Federico Pena, former Denver Mayor; Dr. Patricia "Patty" Baca, former Denver Public Schools Administrator; Patricia A.
