A bill for an ordinance approving a proposed Fifth Amendatory Agreement between the City and County of Denver and State of Colorado Judicial Department to pay for personnel to provide a school based gang prevention program.
Amends an intergovernmental agreement with the Colorado State Judicial Department to add two years for a new end date of 12-31-19 and to add $263,357.71 for a new contract total in the amount of $923,829.91 to continue the work of the citywide Gang Reduction Initiative of Denver (GRID) program (SCITY-201100301-04). The last regularly scheduled Council meeting within the 30-day review period is on 4-9-18. The Committee approved filing this bill by consent on 2-7-18.

The Colorado State Judicial Department (State Probation) has been under contract with the Gang Reduction Initiative of Denver (GRID) since April 2011 providing critical gang intervention services (case management to high-risk gang members under court supervision) and gang prevention services to Denver youth through the Gang Resistance, Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) school-based program. The current ordinance request is to provide continued gang intervention/prevention services during the next two years. The agency will continue to provide gang prevention services to Denver youth and families through the G.R.E.A.T. program as well as provide intensive wrap-around services for a growing number of Denver youth involved in the juvenile justice system for gun-related offenses.
