A resolution approving and providing for the execution of a proposed Grant Agreement between the City and County of Denver and the Bloomberg Family Foundation, Inc. concerning the “Air Quality Community Action Network (AQ-CAN)” program and the funding therefor.
Approves a grant agreement with The Bloomberg Family Foundation Inc. for $1,000,000 and for three years to develop an air quality monitoring network to provide real-time data to improve air quality citywide (ENVHL-201947089-00). The last regularly scheduled Council meeting within the 30-day review period is on 4-1-19. The Committee approved filing this item at its meeting on 1-23-19.

Type and Scope of services to be performed: Denver, in partnership with Denver Public Schools (DPS), is creating a citywide air quality (AQ) monitoring network to provide real-time AQ data-utilizing low-cost cutting-edge air pollution sensor technology, redeveloped with solar, battery storage and data connectivity to make it useful for widescale deployment and replicable in any municipality. To date, no U.S. municipality has a city-led, community-based air-monitoring program.
The City will work to improve air quality by installing cutting-edge air-pollution sensors around schools that will provide data to inform the City’s approach to making the air safer for all.
