Type and Scope of services to be performed:

Administered by Denver Civic Ventures, the City will fund one-third of the Urban Forest Initiative’s grant program up to $3 million.  Through public-private partnerships, the grant program will expand and enhance downtown’s urban tree canopy by planting new trees and improving existing planting areas.

With downtown rapidly developing and becoming more dense and populated, the center city has the lowest tree canopy coverage of any major city in the country.  The Outdoor Downtown plan identified the downtown tree canopy is currently 4%; and established a goal to grow the urban forest and increase the tree canopy to 10% coverage.  The Urban Forest Initiative is raising awareness of the need to expand downtown’s urban forest through a grant program that leverages public and private funds.  Private property owners in downtown are eligible to participate in the grant program; and improve their respective tree planting area(s) in the public right-of-way.    The grant program reimburses private property owners approximately 2/3 of the total project cost (of which the City funds 1/3 of the total project cost; and DCV funds 1/3 of the total project cost).
