A bill for an ordinance approving a proposed Fifth Amendatory Agreement between the City and County of Denver and School District No. 1, for a new total.
Amends an intergovernmental agreement with School District Number One by adding $213,423.42 for a new total of $699,421.42 to provide out of school time services to youth in Denver with a Social, Emotional and Academic Learning focus through a grant from the Wallace Foundation, citywide. No change to agreement duration (202056382). The last regularly scheduled Council meeting within the 30-day review period is on 12-21-20. The Committee approved filing this item at its meeting on 11-18-20.

Type and Scope of services to be performed:
Amend (#5) agreement to School District Number One in the City and County of Denver a contract in the amount of $699,421.42 to provide comprehensive social emotional and academic learning out of school time services for youth across the City of Denver. Term: 9/1/2017-8/31/2021. Denver was one of six cities across the nation to participate in the Partnership for Social, Emotional, and Academic Learning (PSELI), known as the SEAL Initiative. Through this partnership, the Denver Afterschool Alliance and Denver Public Schools are working together to build the capacity of six schools and their out-of-school time partners to work in deep partnership together to align and integrate SEAL into all practices, staff structures and goals for youth. Research shows that children who participate in evidence-based SEAL programs, both in the classroom and after school, have improved SEAL skills and academic performance and they are more likely to graduate from college, succeed in their careers, have positive work and family relationships, and better physical and mental health. The best practices learned through the initiative are being scaled across the City.
