Approves a contract with PCL Construction Services, Inc. for $148,992,354 and through 12-31-24 for the renovation of the 16th Street Mall in Council District 9 (202057899). Type and Scope of services to be performed:
The 16th Street Mall Project is a strategic and coordinated effort to address deteriorating infrastructure, provide equitable and sufficient space for high-quality public gathering opportunities, improve pedestrian and vehicle safety, and continue reliable two-way Free MallRide transit service while honoring the Mall’s use and iconic design.
Proposed improvements to the 16th Street Mall include:
• Replacing a failing pavement system with new granite pavers in a similar diamond pattern with improved surface friction and proper drainage to reduce maintenance costs and improve bus and pedestrian safety.
• Removing medians and consolidating transit down the center of the Mall.
• Replacing the deteriorating tree canopy with a variety of tree species that match the characteristics of the historic design and do well in Colorado’s climate.
• Implementing a hybrid curb/curb less design and 10-foot clear pedestrian walkways to comply with ADA accessibility guidelines and increase safety for all users.
