Type and Scope of services to be performed:

The 16th Street Mall Project is a strategic and coordinated effort to address deteriorating infrastructure, provide equitable and sufficient space for high-quality public gathering opportunities, improve pedestrian and vehicle safety, and continue reliable two-way Free MallRide transit service while honoring the Mall’s use and iconic design.

 

Proposed improvements to the 16th Street Mall include:

                     Replacing a failing pavement system with new granite pavers in a similar diamond pattern with improved surface friction and proper drainage to reduce maintenance costs and improve bus and pedestrian safety.

                     Removing medians and consolidating transit down the center of the Mall.

                     Replacing the deteriorating tree canopy with a variety of tree species that match the characteristics of the historic design and do well in Colorado’s climate.

                     Implementing a hybrid curb/curb less design and 10-foot clear pedestrian walkways to comply with

ADA accessibility guidelines and increase safety for all users.
