Contract Control Number: 202158901

Vendor/Contractor Name (including any “DBA”): CDOT

Type and Scope of services to be performed:

The Evans Avenue corridor between Clay Street and Osage Street exhibits a significant crash history involving pedestrian crashes and rear end, approach turn, and broadside conflicts between turning vehicles at both signalized and unsignalized locations.

The Safer Main Streets - Evans Avenue Vision Zero Safety Project will utilize the CDOT Grant funding to design and construct raised-curb medians and incidental improvements in the indicated segments. The Bryan Street/Evans Avenue intersection and Pecos Street/Evans Avenue intersection would be restricted to ¾ movements, prohibiting left-turns and through movements form the side-streets but allowing westbound left-turns and eastbound left-turns from Evans Avenue to southbound Bryant Street and northbound Pecos Street, respectively. The median turn restrictions also allow the opportunity to provide pedestrian refuge in the medians, and in general are expected to help reduce the risk to pedestrians crossing the roadway. The proposed medians should help reduce the frequency of mid-block crashes that occur due to turning traffic, in general.

Funding for the design and construction of these improvements is from the Safer Main Streets Initiative funds. The City and County of Denver is responsive for covering design and construction costs that exceed the Safer Main Streets amount awarded.
