Rescinds $154,000 from General Fund Contingency and makes a supplemental appropriation in the City Attorney’s Office General Fund appropriation to support limited staff positions serving as Special Assistant United States Attorneys, managed through a memorandum of understanding with the United States Attorney’s Office and focusing on prosecuting violations of illegal possession of a firearm under United States law. The Committee approved filing this item at its meeting on 7-19-22.

This request will approve a rescission of $154,000 from General Fund contingency to increase the City Attorney’s General Fund appropriation (01010-4510000) by the same amount. This will provide sufficient budget capacity to fund salaries and benefits through the remainder of 2002 for four Assistant City Attorney Positions in the Prosecution and Code Enforcement Section of the Department of Law to serve as Special Assistant United States Attorneys (“SAUSA”). As part of the SAUSA Unit, the Assistant City Attorney will work directly with and under the supervision of the U.S. Attorney’s Office to prosecute violations of the U.S. Code, specifically illegal possession of a firearm under 18 USC § 922. These positions will be limited and managed through a memorandum of understanding with the US Attorney’s Office.
General Fund Contingency is currently $27,288,900. The original contingency was $29,400,000. CB22-0738 is currently pending approval in the legislative process for a supplemental appropriation of $775,000 for CPD and TS (CB22-0710 and CB22-0746 are pending approval through the legislative process but have a net zero financial impact).
