Type and Scope of services to be performed:

Following a co-responder model, the Substance Use Navigation (SUN) program aims to deflect individuals from unnecessary criminal legal system involvement and/or hospitalization, and link them to behavioral health services as needed and appropriate. Behavioral health co-responders (i.e. substance use navigators, or SUN navigators) are dispatched along with law enforcement or may provide a joint secondary response on these calls. The SUN navigators offer assessment and crisis intervention services at the scene, provide referral information to the individual, and provide follow-up, when necessary. DDPHE implements and maintains the SUN program for its community by collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure service delivery, training and resource coordination. Last but not least, DDPHE collects data, measures outcomes, and reports SUN program outcomes to the City and County of Denver as well as the State (sponsor) to assist in determining the effectiveness of the program.
