A resolution approving and providing for the execution of a proposed Grant Agreement between the City and County of Denver and the State of Colorado concerning the “Victims of Crime Act” program and the funding therefor.
Approves a grant agreement with the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice for $746,691 and through 12-31-22 to support the Victim Advocate program, citywide (DATTY-202057295). The last regularly scheduled Council meeting within the 30-day review period is on 2-8-21. The Committee approved filing this item at its meeting on 12-30-20.

Type and Scope of services to be performed:
This grant will allow the Denver District Attorney’s Office (DDAO) to sustain and enhance the DDAO Victim Advocate Project. It will continue funding two Family Violence Unit Victim Advocates (VA), one Human Trafficking VA, expand the existing Collaborative Domestic Violence Response Team VA to include firearm relinquishment, and add a Restitution Technician. These positions are critical to meeting the complex needs of victims of crime, with each advocate playing an essential role in helping victims not only with specialized service needs, but in navigating the multifaceted criminal justice system. The project works in close collaboration with the Rose Andom Center, Colorado’s family justice center that provides centralized, collaborative and comprehensive domestic violence services. In addition, funding from this grant will send two project staff to the annual COVA Conference each year of the project period.
